Ministry of Education Guyana selects SCG Creative
for Mass Media Literacy and Numeracy Campaign

New York - The Ministry of Education Guyana has concluded a lengthy search for a mass media agency to partner with on an upcoming national Literacy and Numeracy Campaign to promote Early Childhood Education. The awarded agency is New York based SCG Creative led by partners Rahul Siddharth and Aruna Naimji. The campaign efforts are designed to reach parents and caregivers of children under the age of five and help give them the best start at school. Regions 1, 7, 8, and 9 in the Guyanese Hinterland as well as targeted remote riverine communities are home to a majority of the country’s Indigenous population. These groups will benefit from programs designed to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for children in these most remote and challenging areas.

This project will include participants include the First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger and Vice-President Sydney Allycock as well as prominent cricket players.

This is a collaborative project between the Government of Guyana and the Global Partnership for Education, with fiduciary oversight from the World Bank. The four components of this project total $1.7MM USD and are expected to be deployed over the course of three years.

SCG Creative specializes in strategy, marketing, and development solutions for corporations, NGOs and governmental organizations.

"We are excited for a successful marriage of our technical expertise in ECD with the creative vision, insight, and sound execution of the SCG team. We look forward to a productive implementation of this aspect of the project and the initiative as a whole,” said Quenita Walrond MA, Nursery Technical Coordinator of the Ministry of Education.

Aruna Naimji, Creative Director of SCG notes, “Education has been central to SCG and aligned with our mission as a consultancy to work on social impact projects specifically targeting underserved and underrepresented communities.”

“We love the desire and motivation the MOE has to develop and support Early Childhood Education efforts across Guyana. We are honored to have been the selected agency and are looking forward to participating in the transformation and renaissance of Guyana,” said SCG Managing Director, Rahul Siddharth.

This ambitious project has garnered full interest and support from members of both the Government of Guyana and the opposition party, Ministers of Education, and most importantly from the Toshaos and Captains of the Indigenous Communities. MOE along with GPE, WB, and SCG together plan to create a robust environment for the country to see a sharp upward shift of its literacy rate from 88.5% in the next five years.
